5 Healthy Sleeping Habits for a Better Night’s Rest

Getting to sleep at a good hour seems like a struggle sometimes. Waking up can be even harder when your lacking a good night’s rest. Creating sleep habits can turn your world around for the better giving you better mental and physical health. If you are having issues falling into a good sleeping pattern, take these healthy sleep tips into consideration to improve your life.

1. Make a strict sleep schedule

Find a time every night where you can go to bed at the same time. It’s a lot easier said than done, but it’s crucial that you make it a habit if you want to have a healthy sleep cycle. The same goes for waking up too. Set your alarm 7-9 hours later so that you get just the right amount of sleep. For example, if you go to bed at 9:30 pm every night, wake up at 5:30 am and start your day. Sticking to a consistent schedule will help you sleep better as your body begins to make it a habit.

2. Don’t nap

Napping is for people who don’t get enough sleep, but if you follow rule #1, you shouldn’t ever have to nap. If you do nap, it may affect your ability to fall asleep at your scheduled time, ruining your daily sleep cycle. We suggest a quick 15-20 minute power nap if you really need some quick shut eye.

3. Workout

Finding a daily activity that gives you good exercise is ideal for a healthy body and it will also help you be more likely to fall into a deep sleep. If you don’t have much time for a workout, find 10 minutes out of the day where you can just walk around. It may sound like nothing, but it will really help while you regulate your sleep activity.

4. Create a ritual

Every night before you go to bed, create a ritual for yourself that will help you destress and get into sleep mode. It could be a hot bath, or it could be dimming the lights. Whatever you do, make it a calming experience. The point of this is to bring down the excitement and get ready for sleepy time.
